BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Review,
Met Lounge, Peterborough
Friday 21st April, 2006
Respond are an exciting new arrival on the Peterborough scene away fromthe growing scores of emo and acoustic bands. Essentially a pop-punkact that draw on their mutual love of rock to create an impressivelyfresh, fluid and uplifting sound.
Lesson Learnt spear headed songs seemingly influenced by early No Doubt,American act Dance Hall Crashers with a bit of Evanescence and KellyClarkson thrown in.
One Track Mind begins with a howling guitar intro that would havepleased any G 'n' R fans in the audience...highlighting the metalinfluence in the band. The song also showed them at complete ease withthe crowd... their stage-groping antics infused the crowd who wereclearing warming to Respond on their first city outing.
Respond’s lead singer Hayley-Ann is a flirt....she gets up into thefaces of the crowd...almost cheek to cheek during Lullaby, a morepowerful and thoughtful song in a set that used pace as one of its mainadversaries. The last two tracks, Underdog and Million Little Pieces, shows Hayley-Ann at her vocal best, with the latter a serious contenderfor the next single release.
For their first gig in the city it was more like a home-coming with theamount of support they brought (they seem to have already launched theirown clothing line) and because of the amount of travelling Respond havealready done....but this does not seem to have been wasted. A tightperformance and the luxury of being confident with their set allowedthem to make full use of the stage and to take away fond memories of the Met Lounge.
