Any city music fans watching Friday night’s Children In Need might have got a pleasant surprise as a Peterborough band got its first television exposure.
Respond were asked to play at the BBC’s Children In Need event at Duxford New Airspace on Friday night.
What the band didn’t expect was that part of their performance of the song ‘Million Little Pieces’ would be broadcast live on national television, in front of millions of viewers as part of the charity telethon.
When they came off stage, they were also called to do a live radio interview from Concorde.
Guitarist Shaun Abela said: “I’m hardly nervous when getting on stage, but this time I couldn’t help it, being surrounded by camera crews.
“Knowing that we were going out on BBC1 was such an amazing experience. We asked after the show whether it was a local broadcast, and we were told it had gone out nationally!”
His brother Nathan, who drums with the band, added: “We were made very welcome and Pudsey gave me a hug! It was a great day all round.”
The band, which also includes vocalist Hayley-Ann Roberts and bassist Tom Michell, rounded off their weekend with a home gig at The Guildhall, in Cathedral Square, where the crowd was boosted by people who had seen their television appearance.
Shaun said: “It was a great success for the band, as we sold more than 100 CDs and our new merchandise seemed to be selling well too.
“We would like to thank all our street team and our sound engineer, Ian, who made it all happen for us.”
The band are now planning an even bigger assault on the music industry next year.
