ESP Magazine Review 3, Peterborough
November, 2007
Saturday October 6 saw local band Respond launch their long awaited CD at Radius to a near packed out venue. Over 200 people turned up to hear Hayley-Ann and the boys play tracks from their latest EP release 'Dirty Little Secrets', and they were not disappointed. The atmosphere was electric from the minute the band walked on stage and Hayles was not slow in thanking the crowd for their support as they launched into their first track. If there were any early nerves, they certainly didn't show, as the crowd jumped and the lights flashed across the room.
It was very easy to see and hear why Respond have made such a name for themselves over the past couple of years. Aside from the music, there was a proper merchandising area with t-shirts, badges and of course, CD's being sold.....not something most bands do very well and a reminder that the music business is a business. Not distracted by the music however, my head was soon back to the stage performance and the obvious chemistry between musicians as they built the set into a music frenzy. As the gig went on the crowd got more and more excitable and the impromptu crowd surfers trusted their lives into the hands of others, as the performance climaxed.
The EP was recorded and mixed in the same studio where artists such as Coldplay, The Darkness, Arctic Monkeys and KT Tunstall have worked. Speaking with Hayley-Ann after the gig she was keen to mention that their producer had even re-scheduled Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones to find studio time for Respond.....”Not bad for a little band from the 'Boro” laughed Hayles! “Its also been great to get support from other local musicians and great to see that bands are starting to support each other in Peterborough.”
With a UK tour planned for next year and media buzz around their EP already building, Respond surely have a bright future ahead of them.
